I’d planned to leave for my weekly General Assembly visit around 9am this morning, but it’s not looking good. We’ve got 2″ of snow so far, which isn’t much, but it’s made a mess of things. WINA reports that there are a pair of cars flipped on 29, Amber tells me that Proffit Road is …

We got totally plowed.
We live on a gravel road that traverses a mountain range. It goes from nowhere to nowhere, and the only people who drive this way are the few of us who live here. Consequently it takes anywhere from a few days to a week after a snowfall for our road to get plowed. The snow …
Everything flows downhill?
My GPS tells me that my home is 680 feet above sea level, and that the General Assembly is 170 feet above sea level, a difference of 510 feet. There’s probably a punchline for this setup, but I don’t know what it is.
On WINA Friday morning.
Charlottesville-area readers might be interested to know that I’ll be on WINA‘s “Charlottesville Live” tomorrow (Friday) morning for an hour, beginning a few minutes after 9am. We’ll be discussing the blogging of the General Assembly, my General Assembly RSS feeds, and related geek political matters. 1070 AM.

La Taza.
All that I know about the La Taza coffee shop, in Belmont, I’ve read on Charlottesville blogs. It seems like there’s a mention or a photo of the place on there every day. So when fellow C’ville blogger Jennifer and I decided to meet yesterday we went to, naturally, La Taza, a first for each …
Jack Marshall on growth.
Jack Marshall e-mailed me today, responding to and expanding on my recent blog entry about Melanie Scarborough’s take on sprawl. Jack’s the president of Advocates for a Sustainable Albemarle Population, though he’s previously served as chair of the Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority, and directed social science research in family planning for the World Health …
Progress on Charlottesville Blogs.
In today’s Charlottesville Daily Progress, Liesel Nowak has a nice story about Charlottesville Blogs: On his cvillenews.com, local blogger Waldo Jaquith is celebrating a milestone: the creation of 100 Charlottesville blogs. […] In Jaquith’s estimation, it is imperative to link those interests within the same community. That’s why he started cvillenews.com, a blog that contains …
Vote “yes” on photo red.
There is little in this world that annoys me more than people who run red lights. It’s dangerous, it’s inconsiderate, it’s reckless, yes, but more than that, it’s offends my basic sensibilities of order. There are mechanisms of self-regulation throughout the social order, defined norms of behavior that are self-evident. Chief among these, to my …
The Consitution Route.
This misspelled sign was on the west side of Rt. 20, north of Charlottesville, for many years, taunting me every time I passed. Mercifully, it disappeared earlier this year, leaving only the post. I like to think somebody finally snapped and tore it down.
