The Staunton News Leader has endorsed Sen. Creigh Deeds for the Democratic nomination for governor. Four dailies have endorsed candidates in this race. Four have endorsed Deeds. The man’s batting a thousand.

Gubernatorial supporters’ debate tonight.
A few of us will be having a blog-based debate in behalf of the three Democratic gubernatorial candidates this evening, beginning at 7:30 PM. My role is to represent Sen. Creigh Deeds, though of course I can speak only for myself here. Since it’s taking place in the form of blog comments, it will all …

Suffolk U. poll is a love letter to Deeds from VA Democrats.
Suffolk University’s new poll is like a big, wet kiss on Creigh Deeds’ cheek. He’s 7% ahead of Brian Moran and Terry McAuliffe (who are tied at 20%), but the real action comes in the questions about who has the most experience, who can deal with transportation problems, who has the best leadership skills, etc. …

Governor’s race trend lines.
Seeing this illustrated is really something. Moran appears to have plateaued, and McAuliffe’s reputation has caught up with him. The undecideds are breaking for Deeds. There’s a week until the election, and a lot can change in a week, but things certainly are looking good for my senator.
PPP poll has Deeds in the lead.
Public Policy Polling has Sen. Creigh Deeds in the lead for the Democratic nomination. One poll does not a trend make, but these results do seem to jibe with my perception the momentum of the race in the past couple of weeks.
The Bristol Herald Courier has endorsed Deeds.
The Bristol Herald Courier has endorsed Sen. Creigh Deeds for the Democratic nomination for governor: Deeds is a strong candidate to face McDonnell and the only candidate seeking the Democratic nomination who previously has run for statewide office. Deeds acknowledged that McAuliffe has garnered a lot of attention and that Deeds is much less flashy. …

Deeds is demonstrably more bipartisan than Moran.
Here’s an interesting, contextless fact. I just crunched some numbers on bill copatrons in the legislature in the past four years, looking at who legislators tend to copatrons bills with. (I hope to add this as a Richmond Sunlight feature very soon.) As you can imagine, Democrats tend to copatrons bills with more Democrats than …

Burning my nonexistent Terry McAuliffe bridge.
Here’s the thing about Terry McAuliffe: I don’t like him. At all. Whether the man were a Democrat or a Republican I wouldn’t like him. I don’t trust him. I don’t believe that his motives are good. I think that he’s the opposite of what the Democratic Party needs, and I think he’s wrong for …

The Washington Post has endorsed Creigh Deeds for governor!
I’m stunned and very impressed: The Washington Post has endorsed Creigh Deeds for governor. In a long, detailed editorial running in tomorrow’s issue, they spell out why “Mr. Deeds may not be the obvious choice in the June 9 primary, but he’s the right one.” He’s “politically astute,” “in a unique position to persuade rural …

SUSA numbers show why McAuliffe would be such a poor nominee.
The latest SUSA poll in the governor’s race is bad, bad news for Democrats. It’s the realization of my fear about how we Democrats—by way of Terry McAuliffe—could screw up a sure thing. By way of background, I wrote in December of 2007 that urban Democrats’ power is in danger of outstripping their pragmatism: As …
