Post smacks down Kilgore again.

Yet again, the Washington Post is slapping around Jerry Kilgore for his “Hitler” ad. (Note that the pro-war, pro-Bush Post now joins the Richmond Times-Dispatch as part of the liberal conspiracy against Jerry Kilgore. It must be tough for Kilgore, being the underdog. Sometimes it seems like the whole world is against him.) The Post, like the RT-D, rebukes Kilgore for his anti-Constitution position on the accused’s right to a defense.

“He tried to get a cold-blooded killer off death row!” Mr. Kilgore exclaimed the other day. Well, yes, that’s what defense lawyers in those cases do — Republicans as well as Democrats. Among the prominent Republicans who have handled or assisted in death row appeals are Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr.; former independent counsel Kenneth W. Starr, dean of Pepperdine University’s law school; and Miguel A. Estrada, President Bush’s unsuccessful nominee to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.

They describe the ad as a “hatchet job,” “a low moment in Virginia politics and in Mr. Kilgore’s otherwise solid career in public service.”

  1. You’d do well to read their editorial page more often, Hans. They routinely support his agenda, even when roundly opposed by Democrats and even the majority of the nation. (Always on matters on which intelligent minds may disagree.) They’ve proven a good source of support for President Bush, perhaps most notably for going to war and criticizing Kerry for his lack of support of the war.

See Salon or The Nation for misc. documentation.

I have a daily subscription to the WaPo and I suppose I’ve missed one or two of their editorials in the last year or two, but not many more than that.

  3. So using the father of a PAID campaign staffer and a rich Kaine campaign donor (Baer) is objective journalism right?
Since when do their opinions matter more than the man in the Kilgore ad, whose son was brutally murdered? Michael Shear, just another liberal talk’in out both sides of his mouth.

You guys are so screwed on this issue. Fact is, I’m opposed to the death penalty in most cases too,. but you guys are f*&#ed. Kaine’s campaign staff clearly skipped class the day they taught “campaigning” at
    Liberal Campaign School.
