What it is ain’t exactly clear.

I don’t know what’s going on, but some sort of an event is obviously happening here in Blacksburg today. There are lots of student-parent types wandering around wearing VT shirts, cars crowding the parking lots, and large, apparently unrelated groups of people all going in common directions at particular times. The cars in the lot have their little turkey stickers and the “VT” windsocks hanging out of the windows. There’s no football game today (of which I know), either.

Last night was supposed to be — I kid you not — homecoming. You know, like in high school. I can only assume that there was also a homecoming dance. There have been signs and banners all around campus for weeks promoting — again, I’m not making this up — various people running for Homecoming King and Homecoming Queen. Maybe this kind of thing is common for colleges — what do I know? — but I figured I’d left all of that behind in my brief stint in high school a decade ago.

Anyhow, given that last night was homecoming stuff, I figure that whatever is going on today is quite likely not anything that I’d be interested in. I avoided last night’s events by going to the movies (School of Rock, which I quite liked, in a fluffy way) and today’s by doing housework and watching the BoSox game. Somehow, I don’t feel like I’m missing out on much.
