Snow day.

All-Terrain Weinerdog

It was a big day here. We got 5-6″ of snow up in the Southwest Mountains, and the dogs loved it.

UVA never closes, so I just worked at home. Tomorrow we’ll try to ford the driveway. Getting down is easy. It’s getting back up that’s the trick. I forecast that we won’t be able to drive up until Friday, and that we’ll have snow and ice on the driveway for at least ten days. And, yes, I’ve seen the forecast. Break out the YakTrax.

  1. Gotta love those YakTrax – I won’t walk anywhere in this stuff without them.

Our roads have been plowed, but I think we will have similar issues: easy enough to get out, whole ‘nother story to get back up in!

  2. Puppies! So cute!

    Sorry, I’m, um, easily distracted.

Have you gotten your dogs to chase after and attempt to retrieve snowballs yet? Depending on your dogs’ personalities, it can be hilarious. (my friends have three dogs that are varying levels of stupid. Goofy, adorably stupid, but somehow capable of acting out strategies and schemes to snare food that would put the Supreme Commander of NATO to shame.)

Lady Bird lacks the mental capacity or attention span to chase a snowball. Ado Annie, on the other hand, loves it, despite that obviously they’re gone once they hit the ground. Her solution is, famously, to catch them in mid-air. :)
