McConnell recants eavesdropping claim.

It was just a few days ago that the director of national intelligence said that new U.S. eavesdropping powers prevented attacks on Germany. Already he has recanted — admitting that the claim simply wasn’t true. Thanks to KC for the tip.

  1. Aside from the quick recantation (which still won’t get the media coverage of the original claim), one other surprise is that McConnell was called out on the lie by Silvestre Reyes, who hasn’t necessarily been viewed as the sharpest of knives.

  2. I wonder if Admiral McConnell didn’t get used by one of those Whitehouse punks – there is reported to be an alternate NSA intelligence type org run by Cheney’s office. What really baffles me is how, going into hearings to pass Whitehouse-requested legislation to make permanent the 6 month surveillance law, the Congress couldn’t get operational details, when the press can. It’s all so Valerie Plame like.
