From Commonwealth Conservative:
Interesting factoid: did you know that parts of Southwest Virginia are closer to 5 other state capitals than they are to Richmond? If you are in Lee County, down in the Southwestern tip of the state, you are closer to Cincinnati, OH, than you are to Richmond. Is it any wonder that SWVa feels like another world?
Isn’t Columbus the capital of Ohio?
*Laugh*
So it is, Joey. :) I suppose the fact of closeness to Cincinnati remains, but it’s markedly less interesting with the knowledge that it’s not a capital.
I guess I didn’t word that correctly. I wasn’t intending to say that Cincinnati was the capital of Ohio; I just thought it was interesting, since I’m a Cincinnati Reds fan. Cincinnati is closer, in addition to five state capitals.
I guess I should fix that. :)

I like to tell people, with as straight a face as I can muster, that Virginia goes farther west than Minnesota.
I still prefer going by the original charter.
Anyone care to join my on my trip to Anchorage, Virginia?

Oh…you were kidding? : >
I believe my sister’s house in downtown Rose Hill, Virginia, is farther west of the Prime Meridian than is downtown Detroit.
