VPAP now provides sliced-and-diced election history data.

Check out VPAP’s new election history data and maps. This is really, really valuable data. Getting data from the SBE’s website is pretty awkward, and not comparable across years. My next project was going to be a website providing this sort of data. Legislature : Richmond Sunlight :: SBE :: Hypothetical New Site. But it was going to be a huge undertaking, so I was relieved when David Poole told me some months ago that VPAP would be doing this themselves. My only disappointment is that the data isn’t exportable, but it’s definitely a huge step forward. As much time as I spend on VPAP’s website, this is going to at least double it.

  1. Of McDonnell’s donors, one really caught my eye- $7k from Keith’s Driving School. The really big donor, for any candidate is the Repub. Gov. Assoc. with $1.95 for McDonnell. I guess there is only 2 gov. races so they have plenty of dough laying around. I’m inclined to root for Deeds, in large part because he has the smallest war chest.

Frankly I think that most political donations are not used very effectively, although there is little doubt that it helps. 3 weeks to go.

I also wonder how many Repub. voters will cross over to vote in the Dem primary. I suspect that most will be cautious as it is hard to know who is the dem easiest for McDonnell to beat.

I also make little of those polls that show McDonnell beating all 3. First of all there are a LOT of undecideds, and second I think once the dems have only one choice they will support the winner.

  2. Any thoughts on why Dennis Rooker has raised SOOOOO much more money than the other BOS candidates? Thanks.
