The Cook Political Report has upgraded VA-05 from from “Likely Republican” to “Leans Republican.” This is big, big news in this race, perhaps the biggest of the campaign. Cook is the first and last word in race competitiveness, and the district has never before shown up on their radar. Combine that with the $600k $300k that the DCCC just agreed to toss into the mix (putting the campaign over the $2M mark, by my count), and we have ourselves a competitive race. It’s a first for Goode, and a possibility that I’d lost all hope of seeing.

I will be proud once again of our congressman.
I frankly thought this day would never come either, Waldo.
Dare to dream, eh?
I’d written that the DCCC spent another $600k on the race, but apparently my information was wrong—the Progress reports it’s closer to $300k. My suspicion is that, in fact, there’s more coming, and that the $600k figure is correct, but since I don’t know that for certain, I’ve adjusted the number in this blog entry.

….which is a recent link, today I think.
$282,668.69 more filed today. Now they’ve spent 644,583.88 so far on Tom, if I read that correctly.
I have no evidence, but the RNC/NRCC has spent money for Goode in this district as well.
