  1. Oh, dear. Did you go get the meds that are only effective in the first 24 hours? I hope you get better quickly and pass it on to no one! At least you chose the crappy weather week to get it.

  2. They say it’s an old wives’ tale, but I’ve only had the flu ONCE in my life and it was after the ONE time I had a flu shot. Coincidence? I think not!! Hope you’re back in the saddle soon!

  3. No flu or cold this year yet. Lots of zinc and orange juice, and a big shot of reality from my doctor. I got the ’50 year old’ lecture, and I am slowly getting to a better health situation.

    Get better soon, Waldo.

  4. Uh, gotta echo the lack o’ flu blow-by-blow sentiment of Whackette.

Buuuuuuut … since it got brought up, and I didn’t take the opportunity last year ’round this time … the flu shot does not — and I mean *not* cause the flu! It *does* cause an immune reaction that can cause a mild elevation in temperature, muscle and joint aches, and a temporary cruddy feeling. That means it’s working. It’s not the flu (at least it’s not the flu the shot protects you against).

Also, if you get the actual flu (versus what many call the flu) it doesn’t mean the shot didn’t work. It means you (probably) got a different strain of influenza virus; otherwise it’s a non-influenza virus that isn’t covered by the shot (because the shot only covers certain strains of the influenza virus).

The shot helps protect you against the kick-ass flu that kills people – usually the young, the old, and the otherwise ill. Healthy young people rarely have a big problem with it (but it can happen). It is a good idea to get one if you can. Herd immunity and all that.

That said – zinc and OJ rock!

Whew! I feel better to get that off my chest. Sorry all – little pet peeve! No offense meant to badrose!

Now – back to the good wishes – feel better soon (to you and your family).

  5. Regarding flu shots and vaccines in general… there are no scientific studies supporting claims that vaccines reduce morbidity. None. However there are several scientific studies showing the harm caused by vaccine ingredients, including mercury (still in some vaccines, including flu shot, even though its toxicity is beyond dispute), formaldehyde (known carcinogen), aluminum, (can you say alzheimers), phenol (carbolic acid), alum (a preservative), and acetone (main ingredient in fingernail polish remover). That’s not even mentioning the foreign proteins such as chick embryo, calf serum, rabbit brain tissue and monkey kidney cells. Thanks, but I’ll pass on having those toxic cocktails coursing through my veins.

Remember the RotaShield vaccine? You know, the one the CDC mandated for use on infants that ended up causing severe intestinal problems? What did not make the headlines was the information that a subsequent inquiry revealed: five of the seven member panel that voted to mandate the use of the vaccine owned stock in the company that manufactured it. Sad to say but the profit motive is much stronger these days than the healing motive. Be an informed consumer – don’t just get vaccines because the doctor or Big Pharma tells you they are necessary.

  6. Ugh. Hope you feel better soon. Something made the rounds through me the other week and it was none too pretty.

Though I never did think to liveblog it. Hmmm….

  7. get well soon. Influenza is not something to be trifled with.
If only republicans could be done away with with plenty of fluids and some bedrest!!!!!!

  8. Paul, you’re an idiot….

Plenty of “fluids” combined with “bedrest” only results in more republicans…..

  9. did you get a lot of snow?
    about 6 inchs

Well Judge, and republtarian, We have caccines, flumist, theraflu, and other stuff on the horizon. I believe that stem cell research will yield good treatments for flu fighting.

    In the meantime, Bird flu is the greatest threat to us, {after G W Bush}

  10. I have already been sick TWICE this year.

Getting my tonsils removed was supposed to help me get sick less often… instead it has merely decreased the intensity of my illnesses, not the frequency.
