The Albemarle Pippin.

The Daily Progress‘ Brian McNeill writes about the Albemarle Pippin, the best damned variety of apple I’ve ever had. It’s the original American apple, was grown by Thomas Jefferson, and earned a major fan in the form of Queen Victoria, who had them shipped across the Atlantic special. Support Virginia farmers: eat a Pippin.

  1. I’ve never had a Pippin, but I can’t believe they’re better than Staymans.

But you might want to talk to Kris about having the Pippin named as the State Apple.

  2. I have an apple everyday at work for lunch and the one that keeps saying ‘nature’s candy’ to me is the Gala apple. I did a still life painting titled “Three Gala’s” and it was bought by Parks and Recreation of Charlottesville…it will be on display somewhere, but Gala’s are it for me. I don’t think I’ve had a Pipp’n or tried a good Mac in a while, I’m pleased with all the choices we have in our markets here in the old dominion
