Richmond Lobbyists Spent $15.4M in 2006 session.

Virginia Coalition for Open Government: “Lobbyists spent a record $15.4 million attempting to sway members of the General Assembly between May 1, 2005, and April 30, 2006.” Thus making it obvious why VPAP’s inclusion of lobbyists is so important. That’s $110,000 per legislator, though it’s obviously not distributed evenly. It’s long past time that the state demanded that lobbyists properly disclose who they’re lobbying and about what. Check out what every single one of Verizon’s lobbyists claim to have advocated for or against: “Matters concerning Verizon Services Corp.” That’s pathetic. Our total lack of standards is an embarrassment and a disservice to Virginia.
