Top evangelical leader Rev. Ted Haggard says it’s true that he bought meth from a man whore, and that he did try to get a massage from the guy, but he threw away the meth and he thought it was just a regular massage. “Thou shalt not lie.” Heard of it? Why is it that all of the most stridently anti-gay Republicans turn out to be gay? Remember Virginia’s own Rep. Ed Schrock? Man did he like the penis.

I would’ve said the Haggard situation is a good one. But I’ve always believed that those who “pimp” religion are generally hypocrites. And the greater the fame the larger the hypocrisy.
Unfortunately, all he’s really going to have to do is the “Jimmy Swaggart crocodile tears” routine with the “I have sinned” and then follow up with the tried and true “Christian forgiveness” speech (which they only trot out when it’s one of their own- otherwise it’s “sinner be damned”).
Then after a month or year in exile, he will be let back in, and the Kool-aide drinkers will take him back (of course the “hardcore” Kool-aide drinkers will never abandon him).
This one disgrace won’t undo the damage he’s caused by pushing the codification of religious values into law.
