JFK Club paints MACAA’s Head Start.

This morning, Amber and I joined the recently-formed JFK Club for their third service project in as many months. Today, we spent four hours at the Monticello Area Community Action Agency, the area’s anti-poverty program, painting some of their Head Start facilities.

The JFK Club exists under the umbrella of the Democratic Service Coalition (motto: Bettering our nation by bettering our communities”), and is one of ten such clubs in the nation. (The Virginia Tech Young Democrats being another one, naturally.)

About fifteen people came to help out. We stripped off old wallpaper, painted walls, ceilings, beams and trim, and generally made a mess of the place. Toddlers sure do a number on walls. At least to about the 3′ level.

Here are a few pictures that I snapped of the work in progress.

I intend to continue to work on future service projects. Next month: improving the security landscaping at Planned Parenthood of the Blue Ridge.
