Preston Bryant gives up column.

On the Roanoke Times‘ website, Del. Preston Bryant writes that he’s giving up the column that he’s written for the site for the past 2.5 years. Bryant has been a cheerleader for the right in that time — and there’s certainly nothing wrong with that — which has left him in a ticklish situation. Having been all but booted out of the Republican Party last week, as a part of the emerging tax-based war within their ranks, Bryant’s probably not feeling like a particularly big fan of the RPV right now. As he reads back on his former cheers, they’ve got to ring a little hollow now.

Bryant is left with the choice of using his column as a pulpit to rail against the radicals in his party, or keeping quiet at the request of the increasingly-ineffective House whip or, more likely, RPV chair Kate Obenshain-Griffin. I’ll be curious to see how much longer the party can keep these two factions from airing all of their dirty laundry publicly.
