Recently, I spent $14 on one of those energy-saving compact flourescent bulbs, one of the ones that are guaranteed to last for five years. This one in particular promotes that it will save me $44 in energy costs in its lifetime. Tonight, a bulb burned out in a ceiling-mounted light that’s awkwardly located over my staircase. I opened up the package to my $14 bulb, and it tumbled to the floor, where it shattered.
