Getcher mailing lists.

I’ve got a new system set up, Rusty. (That’s its name.) Rusty is an old Dell P133, and its only purpose in life is to serve as a free mailing list server for local organizations. I’ve been trying to find similar projects around the country, but I haven’t tracked any down yet. Before I start inviting people to set up lists, I’d like to avoid any known pitfalls of a system like this. Anyhow, if you’re in Charlottesville, and you work with a non-profit organization, club, or government agency, and you think that this could be useful to you, drop me a line. I’m not going actually start setting up any lists until next week, but I would like to know what sort of groups will want to use this, what they’ll want to be doing (announce-only lists, discussons lists for boards, heavy discussion lists for the general public, etc.), and that kind of thing.

This, on the heels of launching cvillenews.com, is my attempt to revive some of the Internet-meets-community spirit that was so alive in 1993 and 1994 in Charlottesville. If any of the old MAVV gang is still around, drop me a line. Maybe we’ll set up a mailing list and really get things done.
