Greg Werkheiser kicks off his campaign.

Saturday afternoon, Amber and I drove north to Lorton, where Democrat Greg Werkheiser formally launched his campaign against Republican incumbent Dave Albo. (Albo was once a Virginia Family Values target. His removal from the list should not confuse the matter: I want this guy out of office and safely sequestered from the civilized public.) The event was held in the cafeteria of a shiny, new elementary school just off Route 95, complete with signs reminding us to be polite and not to run. Hundreds of people were present, notably Bruce Roemmelt (running against VFV-targeted Bob Marshall), the bad-ass Del. Kris Amundson, and a trio of Virginia Democratic bloggers: Kenton Ngo, Lowell Feld, and a third, anonymous, blogger.

Del. Brian Moran did the first bit of speaking, followed by Supervisor Gerry Hyland. Greg Werkheiser, with a background in speechwriting, delivered a speech so good that my own regret is that we, the audience, didn’t measure up to receiving it. And that’s really saying something. During the final applause, his whole family joined him up on stage.

With Friday’s campaign filings showing that Greg is crushing Del. Dave Albo‘s fundraising (Greg raised $72,350 in the last period, Albo raised $10,425; Greg has $86,507 on hand, Albo has $37,621; Greg raised $151,153 this election cycle, Albo raised $87,274), there’s no reason why Greg shouldn’t reduce Albo into a small pile of ash on November 8.
