  • I love rethinking the fundamentals, and Adams does a great job of doing that here. His proposals will probably infuriate some people, but he's started a valuable discussion, showing an admirable willingness to eschew the status quo. As my refrigerator magnet reminds me, "without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible" (Frank Zappa).
  • Sen. Richard Lugar being primaried for being too far to the left? Craziness, but it's happening—prominent Republicans around the nation are facing the same prospect. This is the effect of the Republican Party swallowing the poison pill that is the Tea Party. This bunch views cooperation as capitulation, bipartisanship as weakness. It does not bode well for democracy.

  1. “This bunch views cooperation as capitulation, bipartisanship as weakness. ”

    You mean congressional Democrats?

  2. First it was a marriage with southern racists, then it was an affair with the religious right, now the Republican Party is going to ride with the Teabaggers. Crazy Sluts.

  3. So, I just had a few extra minutes to read the Dilbert op-ed about taxing the rich. Interesting.

Cliffs notes version: According to Scott Adams, the country will be saved if we can get the rich to pay more taxes. And he has a few very bad ideas for how to do that.

Was there some other point to that article?

  4. If we can just tax the rich enough, all others can live free. I wonder how much we can extract from George Soros. He could probably take care of all of Cville, if made to.

  5. Frank Zappa also gave us, “Politics is the entertainment branch of industry,”

“Let’s not be too rough on our own ignorance, it’s what makes America great.”

“Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe”

“The United States is a nation of laws, badly written and randomly enforced”

and of course one that will appeal to you Waldo –

“Drop out of school before your mind rots from exposure to our mediocre educational system. Forget about the Senior Prom and go to the library and educate yourself if you’ve got any guts.”

oooh, and I love this one…

“The essence of Christianity is told us in the Garden of Eden history. The fruit that was forbidden was on the tree of knowledge. The subtext is, All the suffering you have is because you wanted to find out what was going on. You could be in the Garden of Eden if you had just keep your fucking mouth shut and hadn’t asked any questions.”

    And just for humor,

“The price of meat has just gone up and your old lady has just gone down.”

The more I read his quotes, the more I imagine him to be a reincarnated Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain). I am amazed at the cynical tones with clever observations that both of them seem to have the talent to eloquently express.
