Richmond Sunlight feature: Related bills.

I’ve added another little feature to Richmond Sunlight — related bills. Any bill that’s been tagged has its entire tag set compared to all other tagged bills, and the top 5 bills with the most similar set of tags are listed. Right now I have it listing all related bills in the system, regardless of the year or chamber in which those bills were introduced, only because I’m not sure whether it would be better to narrow that scope or not. To pick a few at random, here are some bills where you can see this in action: SB749, HB1639, and HB2561. This is precisely the sort of feature in I have in mind when I lament that Richmond Sunlight is really just at a starting point, and there are so many ways that I could be harnessing the data that’s on there now to make it far more useful. Showing related bills is a tiny little feature, but I think will it make it significantly easier for regular folks to figure out the General Assembly.

  1. Break them out by session, or maybe have a bullet list for current session and a bullet list for past sessions. I’d be more interested in related bills that are still kicking.
