Bush mired at 26%.

Newsweek has another poll that pegs President Bush at a 26% approval rating. Nixon’s lowest approval rating, 23%, is within the MoE of Bush’s current rating. I forecast that we’ll see Bush get down to 23%.

  1. As always, Waldo, let me preface my comment by saying that I agree with your politics. Bush’s approval rating is in the gutter, but so is the Democratic Congress’. This Gallup poll has Bush at 25% and the Democratic Controlled Congress at 14%. The people, myself included, aren’t just sick of our president. We’re sick of our government.

  2. Congress was getting high marks until the “leadership” caved to Bush on Iraq.

Inside the beltway thinking is getting people killed.

  3. Yes, Congress’ rating is terrible, no doubt about that. But remember that Congress’ ratings are far less elastic. Their ratings don’t ever go anywhere near as high as the president’s. So while they’re low, it says a great deal less than than the president’s ratings.

Congress’ ratings sucked when the Republicans controlled it, but I didn’t say anything about it then, either, at least not that I remember. That’s because Congress’ ratings always suck — they’re not a significant predictor of voting behavior, and they often run counter to the public’s support of their agenda, leadership, etc.
