Fan District Hub.

F.T. Rea has launched a new blog, Fan District Hub. You might know him for his personal/political site, SLANTblog. Though Terry is a fine political blogger, it’s the modern equivalent of a zine (as was the original SLANT) where he’ll really shine — the community blog. Fan District Hub will focus on Richmond’s Fan District, where Terry calls home. The site was built by Ross Catrow of PharrOut, and I do believe it’s now the finest of the community blogs in Virginia. I may not live in the Fan District, but I’ll be reading Fan District Hub.

  1. I agree, I really like that site. I also think the creator did a phantastic job.

  2. Waldo,

    Thanks. Your encouragement is appreciated.

While I may not be the best guy to prove that neighborhood/community blogs are going to be the next significant wave in blogging, I do think it’s going to happen. Each such blog will be a laboratory in which to experiment, to develop the best methodology. Some will be more generic, others will be edgy. Some will be group efforts, others published by an individual. The best of them will set the pace.

One interesting aspect of this nascent trend will be how the mainstream media will cover it. My guess is the newspapers, which are all trying to understand/hop on the blogging bandwagon, actually fear the potential of community/neighborhood blogs much more than they do political bloggers.
