VA blogger spurred Imus’ firing.

The Wall Street Journal explains that it was Virginia political blogger Ryan Chiachiere who spurred the attention to and eventual firing of Don Imus. Ryan was best known for his 2005-6 blog, “The Side of the Slant,” but is now better known for his work at Talking Points Memo and, clearly, Media Matters. (Via Slashdot)

  1. *slow clap*

I’m sure Chiachiere wasn’t the only one talking about this. Fox News’ John Gibson reported on this story the same day on his radio show, if I’m not mistaken.

That’s why MSNBC GM Abrams blamed Imus’ firing on Fox News in the first place, which was ignorant.

  2. …who spurred the attention to and eventual firing of Don Imus.

What Imus said was wrong, however that’s a part of what he does and what he has been doing over the years. He shouldn’t have lost his job over it. I believe the media and it’s self appointed watchdogs have been entirely too selective in their attribution of blame and rush to judgment.

  3. It’s his shtick. I don’t care for his show. Hence I think what he said was inappropriate. But not enough so to get fired over.

People know he’s said outrageous things- made a career out of it. And they’re suddenly surprised and offended when he does so now? And they’re suddenly surprised when he repeats something that’s heard time and time again in other sections of the media?

    It’s selective focus.

  4. Imus’s firing is merely the first step in a conspiracy to re-establish the Fairness Doctrine. ;)

  5. Pravda has the goods.

“In a clear sign of its intent to reign in dissident American media personalities, and their growing influence in American culture, US War Leaders this past week launched an unprecedented attack upon one of their most politically ‘connected’, and legendary, radio hosts named Don Imus after his threats to release information relating to the September 11, 2001 attacks upon that country.”
