CBS News: “The GOP does well in southern metropolitan areas like Roanoke, Harrisonburg and Charlottesville, in addition to the party’s usual strong showing in rural areas.” Bush was rockin’ the 46% in Roanoke in ’04. And in Charlottesville? An ass-kicking 27%.

  1. And during the 2005 Gubnatorial race the GOP candidate Jerry Kilgore took a licking in Martinsville, Galax, Harrisonburg, Staunton, Roanoke, and Radford. The results were stark in Martinsville and Galax. I’d say that was a sweep of the metro areas.

  2. Wow, Kilgore only got 36% in Martinsville. That’s really bad. I had no idea.

I don’t mind people posting pseudonymously — particularly when it’s a valuable contribution like this — but please don’t pretend to be somebody other than who are you. In your case you’ve posted as “George Allen.” You presumably are not named George Allen. I’ve changed the name that you used to “Anonymous.” You’re welcome to use just about any alias you want but, please try to use something that won’t cause confusion.

  3. Yep, I am the anon poster. Tech. glitch. Thanks for fixing.

And I’m happy to say Montgomery County gave Kilgore a miserly 42% and the Town of Blacksburg mirrored C-ville. What I take from this is that the SW and Southside are not monolithic Republican – they vote the candidate. I look for similar results on Tuesday.
