Romney blasted for nothing much at all.

Gov. Mitt Romney is in trouble for using the phrase “tar baby,” with one guy complaining that it shows he’s not presidential material. Huh? I just found out that “eeney meeney miney moe” is supposed to be a no-no. Languages changes, folks. But ain’t nobody gonna stop me from saying “niggardly.”

  1. He proved that to me, personally, Waldo, when he signed that socialized medicine bill a few months back.

And I didn’t know that “eeney meeney miney moe” is supposed to be impermissible. My young, black, female assistant didn’t either. On the other hand, it probably wasn’t until I was in my thirties that I discovered that I should take offense to the term “welsh on a bet.”

Language changes, and frequently, it changes such that it becomes devoid of the hateful meanings that all but the grievance lobby have forgotten.

Where do I sign up to get all the PC memos?

  2. Yeah, we wanted to use “Tar Baby” in, I believe, a Barbie game, and that didn’t go over so well. We were obviously thinking of original story (based on an Anansi story, incidentally), and not its other connotations.

You also shouldn’t use “gypped” or, apparently, “spaz.” “Tard” is right out, though retains more humor value than the others mentioned so far.

  3. Apparently Congresswoman Diane Watson is a racist as well.

I’m certainly no fan of Romney — or of Tony Snow, who had the exact same problem a few months back — but this sort of attack is just idiocy.

  4. Bet you didn’t get fired, Aileen, like the D.C. civil servant who used the word in budget discussions a few years back. Now, that would have been OK, if only they hadn’t replaced him….
