It’s like they’re trying to hang on, ever so tightly, to keep a last acceptable form of bigotry.
Government shouldn’t be in the marriage business heterosexual or otherwise. They should just all issue “Civil Union Licenses” or “Civil Partnership Licenses.” Because after you remove all the emotional and religious elements from marriage all you’ve got is a business contract joining the financials of two people. Everyone should have access to that. If they want to call it a marriage, have that be something separate and sanctified by a persons church of which Government is not involved.
