Deeds recount observer.

I’ve signed up to be a recount observer on behalf of the Creigh Deeds campaign. I ain’t bragging — it’s not exactly a tough gig to get — but it seems like the sort of thing that should be called up, in the interest of disclosure. As best as I know, it means that I watch the people who are doing the counting on December 20th. Given that the voting around here is computerized, I assume they’ll let me audit the source code.

That’s a joke.

  1. Ahh, here in Va Beach we are punchcard people… flashback to Broward County, FL.!

I, no doubt, will be cross-eyed by the end of the day.

And if I get a bunch of R lip, I might just give them a black eye to boot.

What is a few hours in jail to defend our team? :-)

  2. If I or my wife get a bunch of D lip during the recount, I think we’ll just ignore it and chalk it up to the sour grapes that is already running rampant.

Deeds has really disappointed a lot of people since the election. Not by asking for the recount — that’s expected and appropriate — but with his snippy comments. It’s like he’s suffering from Sore-Loserman syndrome.

Let’s just hope and pray that the end of the recount coincides with the end of this election… rather than lawsuits around the state.

  3. Sore loserman syndrome? Good point, clearly McDonnell should claim he was ‘mandated’ the position with his killer 345 vote lead.

  4. Publius: Agreed. The recount is certainly acceptable. If he would have taken the high road like Jim Murray did against George Allen and said “I’m asking for this recount because my supporters expect it.” it would have been more respectable than what Deeds has offered to the electorate. He could have gained the respect of folks in both parties, had he played his cards right. Instead, he has shown himself to be the partisan, cutthroat politician many have accused him of being. I once thought Deeds was a good centrist candidate. But that is not the case. It is well that Deeds should loose by such a razor-thin margin; makes it sting more. I expect he will have opposition in ’07 as well. Voters will judge him harshly if he acts in a less than honorable way, today. Waldo, good luck with the “observing.” At least you’re involved. Wrong, but involved; beats most of the public.

  5. I can’t figure out what the hell y’all are talking about. Snippy comments? “Shown himself to be the partisan, cutthroat politician many have accused him of being”? “Less than honorable”?

How about some quotes, some citations of actual statements or actions here? It’s like y’all are occupying some kind of a parallel universe, one with the special feature of a total lack of footnotes.

  6. Here here, Waldo! I heven’t heard any of this crap that Publius and Walt are babbling on about. Apparently, Democrats go crazy if they can’t bitch about something.
