I can’t get no respect.

Late this evening, I pulled up to a gas station, started filling my tank, and left that to squeegee my windshield. Abruptly, the pump stopped, the lights turned off, and I was left standing in the dark. At 10:55pm, the gas station attendant had decided to shut things down, my fueling be damned.

  1. One night, I started fueling at the Texaco by the bridge at Pantops. I had 25 cents worth pumped in, when the pump stopped, and the lights went out, at 11:00 PM on the dot. I walked up to the window, knocked to try to get the attention of the attendant, who was just on the other side of the glass. He ignored me, not even turning to look. He did not need to take a quarter from my hand, as the pump had my debit card info. So, I could not get my tank filled at Texaco. Next door, at Hess, even after 11:00 PM, they were willing to sell me gas. So, now I will never fuel up at Texaco, and always try to go to Hess. I get better mileage (about 25% better, on average) from Hess gas anyway. If the mind set of major corporations does not entail training employees in the service industry to actually provide service, well, those corporations send the message to me that they do not want my little bit of business.
