Shannon Worrell at Gravity Lounge.

One of my favorite musicians in the world, Shannon Worrell, is coming out of her semi-retirement for a concert in a week’s time. Shannon Worrell — known also for her band, September 67 — is perhaps best known for her masterpiece album, Three Wishes. (Her release a few years ago, The Moviegoiner, is also very good, as was September 67’s one album, Lucky Shoe.) Shannon Worrell I suppose I could describe her as girl-with-guitar, but that would both be a ridiculously narrow definition and pretending that it’s still 15 years ago, age-wise. She’s an incredibly gifted songwriter, a beautiful performer, and a great woman.

On Saturday, at 8pm, she’s performing in the ground at Charlottesville’s Gravity Lounge, her first show in, if memory serves, maybe five years or so. Also performing is the wonderful Terri Allard. Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 at the door. Shannon’s show is a rare treat — rare not only in that she so seldom performs, but also in that I’m actually going, since Amber bought us tickets. See you there?
