House of Delegates stats.

Of the 100 members of the Virginia House of Delegates, 53 of them are originally from Virginia, 46 are from elsewhere, and 1 doesn’t say in his bio. 57% of Democrats are from Virginia, while only 49% of Republicans are. The two independents are both from Virginia.

And now you know.

  1. While on the surface it seems reasonable to expect a delegates to be born in the state in which they run, I wouldn’t put too much emphasis on it. A person who lives here for 10 years may well have as much pride and sense of duty as someone born in the area. In other words, I wouldn’t read much into it.

  2. I’m not reading anything into it. :) The difference between Democrats and Republicans in this regard is so tiny as to be nearly statistically irrelevant. I only posted this because I’d long wondered what percentage of the Virginia House of Delegates is originally from Virginia. But I’ll be wondering again in a year’s time and I’ll google it, and this way I’ll find out the answer. :)

  3. Yo waldo – I enjoy your blog. I recently discovered it as well as some other ones from VA democrats (maura’s is good as well).

Anyway – just wanted to give you the heads up if you hadn’t seen yet – werkheiser’s site is up.

    Werkheiser for Delegate

It occurs, now that you mention it, to me that e-mailing back and forth with Greg yesterday about his site does not, in fact, constitute blogging about it. :) I’ll be sure to put up a mention — thanks for the reminder.
