Ben Cohen (of Ben & Jerry’s) has started a new organization, called True Majority, “in order to compound the power of all those who believe in social justice, giving children a decent start in life, protecting the environment, and America working in cooperation with the world community.” The cool bit is the Flash animation (broadband required) that explains how the budget works, using Oreo cookies to simplify the concept. The gist of it is that we spend way, way too much on our military, and if we just reduce that spending a tiny bit, there can be a huge, huge benefit to urgent needs like K-12 education, world hunger, and middle eastern oil dependence. If the federal budget is a complete mystery to you, spend a few minutes watching this.
