This is resolution?

I was in court yesterday morning for the preliminary hearing (or whatever it’s called) of Randall Herring, the guy who hit me. I figured that with a totalled car and a hit-and-run (and a marijuana charge from when he was picked up last month), he’d get some jail time, some community service, something like that.

He got a fine. They wouldn’t even tell me how much the fine was for. I guess I’m supposed to feel like justice has been done, and all is right in the world, now that the Long Arm of the Law has boldly provided a punishment suitable of the crime. The moral of this story is that anybody with a few hundred bucks (I’m guessing) can rear-end a parked car at 40 MPH, drive away quickly, ditch their car, run like hell, eventually get picked up, found to be carrying drugs, arrested, brought to court, and Visa can make it all better.

Civil court, here I come.
