From the small-world category, my cousin Verne Rupright is running for mayor of Wasilla. He’s a Republican, a secessionist, and a defense attorney. Verne figures the town needs to get back to basics and invest in infrastructure. No word on his position on Sarah Palin. On a related note, I recently discovered that a) Kyra …

The unbearable lightness of tumors.
This is one reason why I’ve written a lot less in the past month and a half. The other reason, which is far cheerier, I hope to announce by way of a new blog within a few weeks.
A Labor Day Blue Ridge tour.
Here’s today’s drive, already in progress: It doesn’t actually contribute to the Commonwealth Quest, since I’ve already visited all of the counties and cities on the route, but I’ll be visiting a bunch of towns I’ve never been to: Aylor, Banco, Criglersville, Syria, Etlan, Peola Mills, Hawlin, Sperryville, Smedley, Washington, Rose Hill, Flint Hill, Wakefield …
Now it’s real.
One week after the big day itself, I had to record it for the first time today, while getting on the exercise bike at the gym: I’m 30. The next number I had to type in—my weight—has been a constant 176 for many months now. As increasing numbers go, I’ll take age over weight.
Exercise slacker.
To flog myself publicly, I’m calling up that I’ve been bad about exercising in the past few weeks, only going to the gym twice (sometimes just once) each week. All of the sordid details are documented on my Twitter exercise blog. This is all a result of my new year’s resolution to become more physically …
Virginian-Pilot on Richmond Sunlight.
The Virginian-Pilot has a really kind editorial about Richmond Sunlight today. What a nice surprise to read this today. I don’t generally write about my own press coverage, but I’m just so darned flattered that I can’t help it. (Via Vivian Paige)
Whupped again.
My second training session at the gym was last Friday, when my introductory trainer took some more measurements and prescribed a weight lifting regimen. Though my BMI is just fine (22), my body fat measurement is a bad situation (I’m at 25%), with the bulk of that in my midsection. The trainer stepped through the …
Whupped.
Further to my new year’s resolution, I’ve been to the gym a few times now, and had my first evaluation and training session today. A personal trainer asked me a series of health questions and took some measurements. Then had me complete a pair of tasks. The results were pathetic. First I was instructed to …
New year’s resolution.
My 2007 resolution (become conscious of the environmental impact of my actions and, with that knowledge, reduce my ecological footprint) went very well. I consider it a great success. This year’s resolution is a continuation of one of my 2006 resolutions: “become conscious of my own health and physical well-being.” I deliberately chose not to …
Quiet time.
Please pardon the lack of blogging. The time that I would normally allot to it (and then some) is going to making some major enhancements to Richmond Sunlight.
