I realized this morning that I was armed with only a BB gun last night; my folks have my rifle. It’s probably for the better — I wouldn’t actually want to shoot anybody. Unless the aggressor were armed with a gun, my gun would have been only for the scare factor.

Two down.
Two months ago today, I moved from Charlottesville to Blacksburg.
Autumn afternoon.
October 2, 2003, 6:42pm. Outside my bedroom window.
Good fences.
Last night, my neighbor in the next apartment over had 2-3 guys over until 2:30am, talking and laughing loudly. I know this because I went to bed at 12:30, hoping to get 8 hours of sleep for my exam today. I didn’t get to sleep until 2:30, because every time that I’d start to drift …
I-81 is nice.
I drove up to Charlottesville on Friday (for a strategy meeting with a House of Delegates candidate and to see some friends) and came back to Blacksburg late Sunday afternoon. It’s the little things.
When I lived in Charlottesville, I needed to carry well over a dozen keys on my keychain, in my left pocket. Now, in Blacksburg, I need only three: apartment, car, mailbox. This is my most constant reminder of this change in my life.
Hurricane, no power.
Hurricane Isabel has left a million people in Virginia without power, mostly (according to Dominion Electric’s status map) in Hampton Roads, Richmond, and up in northern Virginia. Oh, and Charlottesville. Consequently, Rez, my mail server in Charlottesville — which is actually Noah‘s mail server — is not accepting mail. The bulk of the storm is …
Nissan bound.
I’m headed up to Charlottesville this afternoon, so that Amber and I can go see DMB at Nissan Pavilion on Saturday night. My thanks to Kim and Krissy for tickets.
