I love this Wikipedia entry on Virginia locations that have ceased to exist, as such. One whole county became Kentucky. Dozens of counties became Kanawha, later renamed West Virginia. Some towns became military bases during wartime. Southeast Virginia lost a great many small towns to municipal growth in the mid 1900s. Basic City became Waynesboro. …

Charlottesville sun dog.
I spotted my first-ever sun dog today, high over Charlottesville: The day that I moved to Blacksburg, a double rainbow hung over the town. The next time that I spotted one was 16 months later, hanging over the town again, the day I moved back to Charlottesville.
