This profile of Perry is depressing, yes, but the description of his earliest days in the NFL is a lot of fun. His style of play was revolutionary, although it did usher in the era of morbidly obese players, most of whom are destined to end up like Perry.

I've heard tell about the Cleveland Indians' ill-fated Ten Cent Beer Night, in 1974, but I'd never seen any specifics. This is the story of the night the fans rioted. It's lucky nobody died.

By a 1968 act of Congress, four major federal holidays were moved to Mondays: Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Columbus Day, and Veterans Day. (In 1975, Congress moved Veterans Day back to a fixed date.) Japan did the same thing a decade ago, calling it the "Happy Monday System."

Take white blood cells from a bunch of people. Pit them against each other, tournament-style, to determine who has the strongest immune system. I love it.

I've been looking for an excuse to link to The Good Men Project, and this seems like a good one. This publication is an attempt to create a "men's magazine" that isn't using the term as a euphemism for a soft-core porn magazine, and I've enjoyed the half dozen articles that I've read in the past year or so. This article addresses the responsibility that we men have to steer girls away from being prematurely sexualized, often in the form of princess culture.

I have been to a couple of dance recitals, and was totally creeped out by the sexualization of all those little girls. Hurray for anyone who works against that. . .

I thought that this might be a good compliment to the Cleveland article. No more disco!!
Kevin: Unlike “ten-cent beer night,” “Disco Demolition Night” was at least in a good cause ;-)
