  • This Sandra Bullock / Thomas Haden Church movie is apparently the worst movie ever. Since every movie that either of them has ever been in is wretched, it appears that in combining their powers of evil, they've created an unstoppably awful pairing.

  1. you know, I think Bradley Cooper is actually kind of great (this is on the basis of “Wedding Crashers” and his utterly charming turn as the male lead in the unfortunately extremely short-lived “Kitchen Confidential,” which was awesome). So it’s a shame to see him wasted in what surely must be one of the most unpleasant films ever made. I could barely even make it through the trailer.

  2. Tombstone and Spanglish had Church (in smaller roles)
Crash and a seemed to remember enjoying Speed (but I could certainly be wrong) with Bullock.

But your point is a good one perhpas they could make a movie with Nic Cage and try and go for a 0%

  3. I kinda want to defend Church, but the best film I can think of recently that he’s been in was Smart People, which wasn’t that good, but fun to watch him in.

Bullock’s been in a few decent films (Time to Kill, Ya-Ya Sisterhood) but for the most part her good films work despite her, not because of her. (Never saw Crash though)

Nic Cage… don’t remind me how much he sucks now. I still remember the days of snake-skin jackets, wooden hands and Las Vegas binges. How far he has fallen.

  4. Nicholas Cage was brilliant in Moonstruck, and I think transcended the material in Face/Off, and yet has been ghastly in so many films. That guy’s inclusion in a project is not an indicator of quality. I’m not sure that I know of another actor whose talents have fluctuated quite as wildly, or who has appeared in such great films and such awful films in the span of so few years.

  5. Not to wrench this discussion away from movies (but I’m totally about to), the xkcd thing ties in far too well with a discussion some of us were having at lunch a couple days ago.

Woman No. 1: “The restroom situation is awful! There aren’t enough stalls, and there’s never handsoap.

Me: “Agreed. I pay too much in tuition for this BYO nonsense.”

Woman No. 2: “The thing is, even if there is soap, you have to practically break the dispenser off the wall to get any.”

Sole Man at the table: “Well, I mean, I get that the restrooms are too small, that’s totally true for us too, but in three years, the men’s rooms have never once been out of…oh, I get it.”

Awkward silence ensued, with subsequent commentary about how that soap had probably been there since James Beasley, of Beasley School of Law fame, had been a student at the school. At least. Conclusion? Lawyers are *gross.*

    Ok, back to movies.

  6. Despite playing to the LCD (a Michael Bay standard), I would watch Nicholas Cage in The Rock any day of the week. Raising Arizona?

And I’ll forgive THChurch for the good times he gave me when he was in Wings. Something about that show…

  7. Nicolas Cage is genius in _Raising Arizona_, but that’s about it. IMO.

I’ll second that. Put the Coens on the map. And it’s still ridiculously funny.
