My top 2008 listens.

My ten most-listened-to artists in 2008:

  1. They Might Be Giants
  2. Hayes Carll
  3. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
  4. Willie Nelson & Wynton Marsalis
  5. Tom Waits
  6. Dave Matthews Band
  7. Mike Doughty
  8. Cake
  9. Suzanne Vega
  10. Vince Guaraldi Trio

I accidentally stopped using my tracking software for the middle half of the year, so this isn’t perfect. (This is based only on what I listen to at home. While I listen to gospel, country, and western at work all day, that’s not included here. But that’s via Pandora, which gives me a big enough cross-section of artists that it probably wouldn’t affect this listing.) I’m a little surprised to find Suzanne Vega on there, and to see TMBG as #1.

  1. Willie and Wynton may be the greatest album to come out in the last twenty years. Surprising how incredible they sound together.

  2. I was really surprised, too. I figured it’d be all light and no heat. (Or is that “all heat and no light”? I can never remember.) But, lo and behold, it’s really a good album.

  3. I meant to thank you for the links to the Merry Mixmas Collection. We listened to that during Christmas week, as well at my sister’s house on the 24th. (did you get Vince Guaraldi Trio because of the ‘Peanuts theme?” ;))

I would guess that at this point, I probably watch more music than I listen to. GAC is on a good deal of the time, and I find my tastes have changed radically, roughly correspondent to my perceived position on Mazlo’s hierarchy of needs lol. However, I have a varied, wide taste, being that I grew up in a rabidly musical family. (No, that doesn’t mean “West Side Story”) ;)

    Happy new Year, Waldo.

Oh, good! There are always a few segments to be fast-forwarded through, but by and large I think they’re a lot of fun.

Like a lot of people, Peanuts was my introduction to Vince Guaraldi. :) But the whole album is great, and it’s playing most of the time in our house during the week leading up to Christmas, which is surely how it earned its spot on this list. :)

  5. I start listening to Vince Guaraldi’s Christmas/Peanuts songs the day after Thanksgiving and I can listen to it all the way through to Christmas–never gets annoying.
