18 of 20 are Democratic districts. Wonder how many are minority/majority districts? (And interestingly enough, our own 3rd CD didn’t make the list.)
“Ridiculous” somehow just doesn’t cut it. This is precisely the kind of gamesmanship and nonsense that breeds such cynicism in people about politics and politicians. And is precisely why we need bipartisan/non-partisan redistricting here in Virginia.
Absolutely stunning. As a software developer I naturally think that some algorithm should be applied to calculate district lines. That would be fair and sensible, but as long as the people who get elected control the regulation over districting it is hard to imagine how this will change.
I, like Vivian, am surprised that Virginia 3rd did not make the list. Some of the districts, frankly, did not strike me as ridiculously egregious. The West Side of Chicago, Upstate New York, and Coastal N.C. were the most absurd. Virginia 3rd is right there with them.
