Mecca : Muslims :: Giant : Jews?

Forehead-slapping quote of the day, from the woman in charge of the Passover seder at Danville’s Agudath Sholom Synagogue: “Shopping is limited. The hardest part is finding the right products. We (make) a trip to the Mecca…to the Giant Food in Charlottesville.”

  1. Big oopsie. Debbie admitted mixing her metaphors and has apologized to any Central Virginian who took her comments literally. As a side note, not so long ago in history the Jewish community in Lynchburg supplied Central Virginia including the Charlottesville community with kosher products.

  2. I could easily (if I may pretend I’m a Jew) see myself saying the exact same thing, and smacking myself on the forehead with horror when I read the quote. :) If anything, it’s a good thing to see such a statement being made so comfortably. I certainly can’t imagine seeing such a statement being made in, say, Israel!

  3. Passover in L.A. is like thanksgiving everywhere else- about a week or two beforehand all the kosher items get prominent spots on the all the grocery store floors. The most visible item being the Matzo which always looked to me like a box of oddly formed salteens crackers.
