One reply on “Slowpoke creator on political comic awards.”
Oddly enough, I’ve always thought that Jen’s comic was one of the few I’ve ever read that managed to be both political and funny at the same time.
In my experience, the vast majority of humor comics that attempt to deal with politics seem to have trouble mixing the two; at best you usually get something like “Pogo” which merely alternated between timeless humor and of-the-moment politics.
Which, incidentally, is why only half of “Pogo” remains readable today. I don’t even recognize the majority of the figures represented in Kelly’s complexly obtuse allegories… nor do most folks who were actually around in the 50’s and 60’s. But funny animals? Everybody gets those.
What was I saying? Oh right, I was saying that “Slowpoke” is really good. The only comic I’ve ever read that became funnier as it became more political (and continues to do so).
