Track GA budget amendments.

The General Assembly’s Legislative Information Service has a state budget section where you can find out what budget amendments have been proposed by whom, what agency they’ll affect, how much they’ll cost, etc. This system is parallel to the traditional legislative process, so you won’t find this information by looking at bills or at Richmond Sunlight (yet). Del. Jeff Frederick, for instance, is both an advocate of smaller government and proposes $40M in spending via budget amendments. In contrast, Del. Rob Bell, also an advocate of smaller government (and my delegate), proposes $0 in new spending. It’s taking every ounce of restraint that I have not to whip up a database and start figuring out how to play with this data.

  1. Frederick’s budget amendmends are mostly for transportation. If money is going to be spent (which it is), seems to make sense to spend it on transportation.
