  1. The practical aspects of the article are quite good, but I found this to be unbelievably naive:

    One might point to the upcoming ’06 Congressional elections, but the anti-illegal immigration furor seems to be a fairly grassroots movement.

    The parts of this that are “grassroots” are not a furor (and not new), and the parts that are a furor are anything but grassroots.

    I find it hard to believe that anyone could have missed the numerous news reports of GOP strategists talking about how they could use the immigration issue, and the fact that illegal immigration was not in the list of top public concerns in any major opinion poll until after the Republican Congress passed a punitive immigration bill and their mouthpieces started talking about it nonstop.
