NYT: George Allen says he’s just really bored of being Virginia’s Senator. In the same piece Sabato concludes that Allen is too far to the right for Virginia, Tully Satre’s exchange is warmly mentioned, and a pundit points out that “intellectual gravitas” isn’t exactly one of Allen’s strengths.

From the NYT article:
“I made more decisions in half a day as governor than you can make in a whole week in the Senate,” Senator Allen said earlier this month as he dashed into a recent Republican fund-raiser in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Over eggs and hash browns with a Republican crowd in Davenport, he lamented about being in the Senate, “It’s too slow for me.”
That doesn’t really speak to a slow mind or a disrespect for the office he holds, does it?
The “intellectual gravitas” comment is probably (and sadly) true of both parties. More interested in soundbytes than good point-on-point discussion, I’m afraid.
I’ve never seen anybody claim that Sen. Allen has any kind of a disrespect for his office.
