Harrington v. Valentine.

R.T. tells me that Mike Harrington just secured the Republican nomination in Lynchburg, meaning that he’ll be pitted against Democratic candidate Shannon Valentine to fill Del. Preston Bryant’s seat. While I know Shannon, and a quick google-about reveals some information about her historical of political involvement, there ain’t nothin’ on Harrington. He’s been described to me as a political newcomer, but I don’t know Lynchburg well enough to say if that’s so. What I really wonder is where he’s at on the spectrum — if he’s much to the right of Del. Bryant, I expect it’ll be an uphill battle for him.

  1. The only things I turned up on Harrington were his company and a couple of nonprofit board memberships that are either him or another family member with the same name (since they mentioned the company affiliation.) There’s also this conservative Lynchburg blog, which indicates that Harrington is more aligned with Bryant and is less conservative than nomination opponent Garber, who challenged Bryant in this year’s primary.

What that means for the special election, I have no idea.

  2. Harrington is reported to have contributed to the Swift Boat veterans for Truth…putting him decidedly to the right of Preston Bryant. I can’t confirm that. I heard it from a friend!
Shannon Valentine’s reputation is above reproach!
