The good news: Del. Bill Carrico (R-Grayson County) is running for Congress, against Rep. Rick Boucher. (That’s good in the sense that competition is good — Boucher’s my man.) Chad Dotson called this up a month ago.
The bad news: What the…?
In a declaration peppered with biblical references, Del. Bill Carrico, R-Grayson County, said Monday he wants to be the next congressman from the 9th District.
“I will be a voice for Christians. I want to strengthen the moral fabric of this faltering nation and stand for the one true God, Jesus Christ, on which our forefathers built this nation,” he declared.
Huh? Is there some shortage of Christians in Congress? Is this supermajority of the nation so oppressed that this guy wants to turn Congress into the Jesus Christ Congress?
Carrico introduced a bill this year attempting to legalize prayer in schools, so his weird announcement doesn’t come as a complete surprise.
Do you (or anyone) happen to know if Del. Carrico is related to to the VA supreme court justice of the same name?
No, Delegate Carrico is from here in Smyth County and he isn’t related to Justice Carrico.
He does have a remarkable story though with his on the job injury while he was a Virginia State Trooper.
Those biblical references might get him pretty far here in the 9th District.

Certainly not closely. The Delegate appears to be a native of the southwestern region. The Retired Justice hailed from Northern Virginia, if memory serves. Anyone else have better info?
ive worked for rep. boucher in previous campaigns of the past. And i know Del.carrico as well. I can promise u this Del.Carrico is no Jay katzen or Kevin Tripplett he stands up for what he believes in whether the republicans like it or not! and i can gurantee one thing hell give mr.boucher a run for his money!!
