Warm up that Lincoln bed for me.

My mother just pointed out to me that I share a great great great great great great great great great grandfather with Lynn Cheney.

I’m not really sure what to do with that information.

  1. We are also likely related to the inventers of Tiddledy-Winks, Snakes and Ladders, and Ping Pong.

The Jaques Company makes toys and games (motto: “We Taught The World To Play”) and the founder was Thomas Jaques, who was born in the same little Wiltshire town (Grittleton) where your umpty-great-uncle Richard remained after his brother Abraham set sail for the New World. (He was born Abraham Jaques, but for reasons lost to history — perhaps he lisped — changed his surname to “Jaquith” upon arrival in Boston.)

  2. If distant relations count, then I’ve been told First District challenger for Terry Kilgore’s seat in the Virginia House of Delegates shares ancestry with the Bushes. Yes, *those* Bushes, as well as the more localized ones.

I’d comment about apples falling far from the tree, but I don’t know which is the trunk and which is the branch in this case, let alone which is the apple, and which the tree.
