Tancredo on diplomacy.

The AP reports on the comments of Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO) on Friday:

Talk show host Pat Campbell asked the Littleton Republican how the country should respond if terrorists struck several U.S. cities with nuclear weapons.

“Well, what if you said something like — if this happens in the United States, and we determine that it is the result of extremist, fundamentalist Muslims, you know, you could take out their holy sites,” Tancredo answered.

“You’re talking about bombing Mecca,” Campbell said.

“Yeah,” Tancredo responded.

Tancredo is, without question, the most vile racist in Congress. I became familiar with him while looking into the record of Rep. Virgil Goode — my Congressman — a couple of years ago, since the two have extremely similar voting patterns on matters of immigration. Both of them like to blame immigrants for things like unemployment and the weather. I suspect Goode does it because he either believes it or knows that some of his constituents do. Best as I can tell, Tancredo does it because he’s a white supremacist.

  1. These kind of remarks kill people. Really. Particularly Americans in uniform who are in harm’s way on our behalf. I respect Tancredo’s right to be a stupid jackass, but he has no right, as an elected member of Congress, to say things that will be grist for the jihadist mills. Even though I fancy myself to be a conservative Republican, I would be delighted if the voters in his district replaced him at the first opportunity with someone who lacked his bloodlust for our own troops. Even a Democrat would be jsut fine with me.
