Overestimating mother nature.

Last weekend, Amber and I drove over to the Shenandoah Valley to go the Augusta Free Press picnic. We thought it was being held at the Natural Chimneys park, in Augusta, but when we arrived, we realized that we were a whole county away from the right spot. Taking advantage of the situation, though, we decided to check out the natural chimneys. Parking in the designated lot, we got out of the car and were greeted by this sight:

Unnatural chimney

I felt a combination of awe and great disappointment. I followed Amber’s gaze in the other direction, though, and saw this:

Natural chimneys

Much better.

It was a pleasant day trip. Not what we had in mind, obviously, but the day was hardly wasted.
