Ponies for everyone!

On Bacon’s Rebellion, Barnie Day named even more ponies (on top of those Kathy named yesterday) that Jerry Kilgore has promised everybody, this time during last Saturday’s debate:

“My better pay for better teachers plan will bring performance pay in the public education system.” (pg.14)

“I am committed to giving parents tax credits—up to $500 per child—to empower them to purchase tutoring or other educational supplies.” (pg. 14)

“I am going to reward our teachers with bonuses…’ (pg. 18)

“I have a transportation plan that will work, will bring more dollars into the transportation system by using general fund dollars—those dollars that come from you income and sales taxes.”(pg. 22)

“I will work with the Bar and the Supreme Court to increase funding, the hourly rate that we do pay those who represent indigent defendants—I think that is an important step forward for our future.” (pg.69)

Did I mention he’s going to cut taxes, too?

What a guy!

  1. I suppose Tim Kaine promised he wouldn’t raise taxes and wouldn’t support new spending on anything, right? The only case I see Democrats making for Kaine is that he’s not Kilgore. Am I off base here?

  2. Yes you are.
Kilgore is Gilmore all over again. Why on earth VA Republicans think new spending is ok, as long as you don’t actually have a plan to pay for any of it, is beyond me.

It reminds me of a guy who hung out with friends of mine, early 1990’s. He didn’t want to spend a lot of money when he went out, so he would take $8 with him but when he had exhausted $8 worth of beer, he wouldn’t do the right thing and go home—he would keep drinking and expect someone else to pick up the tab. And no doubt he would wake the next day feeling virtuous that he hadn’t spent more than $8. What a mooch.

You want to party all night, figure out how to pay for it. You don’t want to pay for it, stay home.

Kilgore is promising everything to everyone and acting like the bill will never come due. How completely irresponsible.
